LETTER TO MYSELF # 1

Yep, that’s right… you feel “stuck”, but guess what? You are NOT ALONE. Life goes through seasons and sometimes you find yourself in a season of struggle (just like EVERYONE else bro). Keep your head up and keep moving forward. Even if it’s baby steps, just KEEP MOVING FORWARD. You know it’ll make a difference in time. Do SOMETHING today that will contribute to a better tomorrow (for yourself and for others). YEP, do something right now… Eventually things will get better, but you have to allow space for CHANGE.

You know that change comes in many uncomfortable shapes (heartbreak, pain, uncertainty, fear, etc), but don’t let this prevent it from happening. You can’t expect things to change if you don’t start doing things you’ve never done. Step out into the unknown “with arms wide open” (yes, that’s a Creed reference) and enjoy the journey. Remember that “new” doesn’t always mean “good”, but at least it welcomes new experiences. Experiences that allow you to grow into the person you want to be.

If you take away one thing, take away this; You don’t always need a plan. Sometimes you just need to take the leap of FAITH and see what happens. #keepsmiling ツ

Why I'm Glad 2016 Is Over...

I'm one of those people who likes to take some time to reflect at the end of each year...

As I sit here in Florida (been visiting my sister) on my last day of Christmas break, there are a lot of thoughts running through my head... A lot of goal stuff (things I've accomplished this year / things I want to accomplish next year), but also a lot of "good sadness". I say good sadness because these are thoughts that I'm cool with, but still make me feel down sometimes. I think "good sadness" is healthy for us all... Lemme explain...

I'd describe 2016 as a full roller coaster (like a pretty full wrangle). It's had some awesome ups, but also some EPIC downers --> Let's start with the good...

Everyday things: God is GOOD, I'm healthy, I have awesome friends, I have a car that works (my old one bit the dust this year - RIP Brutus) and I have been blessed to get to work on music...

AWESOMENESS things: I have put out a release with Neon Hitch, worked on Monday Night Football theme song + have a track with 100K+ plays on Spotify... STILL HARD TO BELIEVE. Couldn't do any of this without you guys and I'm forever grateful for all the support.

The sad things --> I won't mention names (it's irrelevant), but I've lost some awesome friends this past year (clarify - they're still alive, but our friendship isn't the same). It makes my heart hurt a lot and I won't go into the details, but I think I've learned a lot along the way... They truly don't lie when they say "you can't win 'em all"

Friendships come and go in life and sometimes there's nothing we can do about it... When you grow up with friends people change over the years (good or bad) --> They get girlfriends / boyfriends, get married and have nuggets, follow career dreams or whatever else, but sometimes those things separate you. As much as it isn't awesome from time to time, I feel like it's a natural part of life. Advice: If you find a friend that walks your same path in life, do whatever you can to keep them close (even if you have a girlfriend / boyfriend). Life-long friendship is hard to find, but it's like a little piece of gold if you do...

I'll end with this though ---> No matter how hard you try, you can't change anyone... The only person you can change is yourself. The best thing we can do in tough situations is think about how we can be better as individuals. I think our human nature is to call someone out on their flaws first and consider our faults second (or even never). It's easy to do (I say this because I do it), but at the end of the day what truly matters is that you are always allowing yourself to grow...

Most people won't like your music and that's okay...

Submitted my track to 25 blogs and have been denied by all of them so far... That doesn't even count the 25+ emails I sent with no response at all.

Trying to get blog / media support in the saturated music industry is more difficult than taking a hot air balloon to the freaking moon... No jokes this time. ツ

I like to think I'm starting to get a decent fan following, but the number of media outlets that turn down my tracks seems to be on the rise. With our digital footprint growing daily and all the information in the world at our finger tips, apparently we've all become critics of everything. A lot of people get upset about this notion, but I think it's kinda awesome. The reason why, we have an opportunity to kill someone with kindness every second of our existence.

Example: High Clouds (smaller EDM blog) drops me an email to let me know that they don't want to feature my track because I sound like Justin Bieber (which is apparently a diss. However, I find this to be funny because the Beibz is arguably one of the biggest pop stars of ALL TIME). In this moment it's easy to take a critique personal, but what do I truly care? I don't know you personally and there's nothing out there that says you have to like my music...

Peep the exchange:

Side note: I'll be honest, I kinda wanted to throw a one liner their way... Instead I joked + said thank you and hopefully something will come of it. Cheers to self-restraint?! Haha ツ

REAL TALK though: If you want to make it in the ever growing garbage filled music industry... Start preparing your thick skin now. Not sure I'll always be able to find the energy to throw praise to the "haters" and look at the positive instead of the negative, but I will always make it a goal to make this whole "music thing" fun all around.

Today reminded me that life isn't about praise from others, it's about doing what makes YOU happy. Please please please, do not live your life (especially in music) working in hope of seeking approval from others. If that's what you're after in music, do yourself a HUGE favor and abandon ship as quickly as possible (I say this because I care about your well being).

It's cliche, but life is short and we only get to live it once. Make the little moments feel like big moments, live for what truly makes you happy and let haters hate (they're just upset cause they ain't you).

That's all the word vomit for now... Until next time, keep smiling friends!

Do Watcha Gotta Do - Out Dec. 9th

It's been a long LONG time coming my friends... But, I'm excited to announce that I'll be releasing a new track called "Do Whatcha Gotta Do" on Dec. 9th! ツ

This will be the first of many original My Buddy Mike tracks. I love collaborating with different artists / musicians, but sometimes I find myself in the lab writing a song that is true to how I feel in the moment. I don't want to give away the direct meaning of "Do Whatcha Gotta Do", but it's definitely a song based on a personal experience...

Don't forget to mark your calendars and pick up the track once it's out on iTunes, Spotify and many more! Also, feel free to leave your thoughts / feelings / emotions below.

Keep smiling friends! ツ

NEW YORK CITY ツ

New York City is one of those magical places for me. As some of you know, I grew up in upstate NY (Ithaca to be exact) and I spent numerous summers going to the city.

Since I moved out to Los Angeles, I hadn't been back to NYC (which was a problem). So, the SQUAD and I found a free weekend to go explore the city for a few days... I'll be honest, it wasn't nearly enough time to feel like a got a full NYC re-charge... But, it was definitely an action packed weekend as you can see in the vlog.

Not sure when I'll be back to the concrete jungle again, but hopefully sooner than later. ツ

No Warning (feat. Neon Hitch) - Out Oct. 28th

STORY: Words truly can't explain how much heart and soul went into this track... Jason Parris, so thankful we met (technically via Tinder - long story, maybe I'll make a video about it haha) and have collaborated on so many tracks.

Neon Hitch, if you told me two years ago I'd have a release with you on it, I wouldn't believe you. So thankful to get to work with you on this track.

To all you amazing fans aka friends, enjoy “No Warning"!

STUDIO UPDATE: Thriller was mixed here...

I'll be honest... I usually produce in my bedroom so I don't have to wear pants, but sometimes an idea calls for a full studio.

As you can see, this day was a lot of fun in the studio. I'm very passionate about my artistry, but I think one of the most important things to remember when trying to make music (or anything else) a career is to have fun.

Not sure what the plan is with this track at this time, but hopefully it will end up being a Jason Parris X My Buddy Mike collab here in the near future.

Until next time, keep smiling friends! ツ

DISNEYLAND ツ

DISCLAIMER: The thumbnail is about 80% correct as I was definitely close to vomiting on the spinning teacups at Disneyland... But, you won't see any vomit. DON'T PANIC.

I've had a Disneyland pass for almost a year now (sadly I probably won't renew), but it's been awesome. I'm definitely a BIG Disney fan (who isn't) and have never lived close enough to a park to have a season pass.

We typical try to hit the "D-Land" about once a month and this time I decided to vlog the full day experience. I know not everyone out there has the opportunity to go to Disneyland, so hopefully this will give you a little sample of what it's like (with My Buddy Mike commentary).

Keep smiling friends! ツ

STUDIO UPDATE: Trollin ft. Jason Parris

A little update on what I've been working on lately...

NOT IN VIDEO: I also recorded vocals today for a My Buddy Mike original track called "Hollow". It's not really at a point of where I can show you guys a sneak peak, but I'm beyond excited for the track. My friend Sabrina will be singing on the track and she has a killer voice / vibe.

"Hollow" likely won't drop till 2017 (music is always a long process), but definitely be ready for it... You may want to have a diaper ready for the first listen just in case haha.

Until next time, keep smiling friends! ツ

THE FIRST VLOG: Many more to come...

PRESENTING the first of many vlogs... I made this for you, but I really made this for me.

Let me explain: I love vlogging and hopefully they'll get better the more I do them. I spend a majority of my time writing / producing / branding / strategizing & contemplating music... But, when I make the brave decision to leave the bowels of my bedroom lab / studio, I want bring you guys along (and also watch them back for myself later on when I need some inspiration). It's true, even though I strive for it, I'm not always inspired and happy 24/7. ツ

Working on music is a lot of fun, but it definitely has it's days that feel like "work". Unfortunately, being an artist in 2016 requires you to do a lot more than just create music. You have no choice but to be Facebook-ing, tweeting, twerking on Instagram, defining your six-pack for tumblr and re-connecting with your "Top 8" on MySpace. If I'm being honest (which is the whole point of these blogs) there are times when I feel like I'm losing my mind because I'm trapped in a digital vortex of social media slush... Yes, the garbage click-bait and one-sided opinions that fill our news-feeds eventually kills my soul. †

That's one of the main reason I try to take trips often. It reminds me that the little things in life are what makes it all worth while... Spending time with friends / loved ones is what actually holds value. You'll remember the long nights and epic adventures, but your ten thousand Instagram followers won't bring you happiness. Unless, you're doing it to show the kids you went to high-school with that you're cooler than them. I kid, I kid... ツ

When my day is done, I want to remember my time spent with "friends", which is also why I call my fans "friends". It's not just some marketing scheme, it's a genuine belief. And, while I know I won't be able to meet everyone along the way, I still want everyone to be a part of journey.

This is where the vlogs come into play. I know it's not a real life party, but hopefully these short "trolly" videos give you a taste of life with "Your Buddy Mike" and also help remind me that having fun and living life is way cooler than being "INSTA-FAMOUS".

You are all awesome. I wouldn't be able to do this without you.

That's all for now.

Until next time, keep smiling! ツ
